From the Island of Forgotten Movies...
Promotional still from Sisters of the Skin(1999)

Sisters of the Skin (Release date: May 14, 1999) is a comedy about Katie and Kim Jensen(Jessica Brooks and Wanda Robinson), conjoined twins who attempt to break into the porn industry, with the idea that(as Kim would say) "there ain't nowhere near enough Siamese twin porn out there". The sisters feel their condition would be a novelty that would make them successful in the industry.

SYNOPSIS

Katie and Kim Jensen were born and raised in a small town in Utah. The sisters were born conjoined twins, joined at the hip. They grew up as normal as any conjoined twins could, given their situation. One night, when they were 19, they're having sex with their boyfriends, and the four of them, on a lark, decide to videotape it. Through a series of misadventures, a copy of the tape winds up in the hands of Cy Wexler, the head of a small-time pornographic movie studio, who sees the fact that Katie and Kim are physically joined to one another as a novelty which would allow his studio to join the big time.

Cy manages to track down Katie and Kim, and offers them a contract with his studio, although he can't pay them a lot(at the time), he promises that if they can attract the type of business he thinks genuine Siamese twins porn stars can attract, they'll earn enough to retire in less than ten years. Seeing this as a way to not only get out of the small, conservative town where they grew up, but a way to say "fuck you" to the local Mormon church that practically runs their town, they quickly agree.

Upon arrival in Los Angeles, the twins are put up in a hotel, at studio expense, until they can find a place to live. They also draw up a contract, which lists things the twins will and/or won't do(the list of what specifically they won't do pretty much begins and ends with "ass to mouth"). After signing their contracts, the twins find their first film to be a little more difficult than expected. In one memorable instance, during their first sex scene, the man Katie is having sex with vomits on her mid-coitus. Despite setbacks, their first movie, entitled "Stuck With You" turns out to be a success, even drawing mainstream attention. The twins make several more pornographic movies, and even graduate to mainstream cinema, and even manage to record several platinum albums, and have a few hits, a couple even going all the way to #1 on the charts.

After a few years, a couple Grammys, and even a joint nomintation for Best Supporting Actress, the twins become bored with show business. As they have even had the occasional fight(until becoming famous, they had never had an argument in their lives), the twins, for the first time in their lives, discuss the possiblity of surgical separation. When word gets out, they gain more publicity, putting them in the public eye they're trying to escape. The twins undergo a medical examination to determine whether or not they can even be separated, and it turns out that despite their age, separation is a relatively simple procedure. The press keeps asking "will they or won't they?", and as the film ends, the twins prepare to make their final decision.

TRIVIA

-Several endings were written, one where both twins survive separation, one where both twins die on the operating table, one where Kim lives and Katie
dies, one where Katie lives and Kim dies, and one where they ultimately decide against surgical separation. The decision was made only days before the world premiere to end it before Katie and Kim decide on whether or not to surgically separate.
-Although the film had an R rating, and wasn't very graphic, all sex scenes in the movie are unsimulated.
-The film was originally planned as a parody of Boogie Nights(1997), but after seeing a picture online in which two women who appeared at first glance to be conjoined twins were performing oral sex on two men, scriptwriter David Christopher got the idea to write a script about Siamese twins who got into porn.
-The fact that the twins were played by actresses of different races was deliberate, to parody the fact that film and TV producers rarely cast real life identical twins as conjoined twins.
-Jessica Brooks and Wanda Robinson were fitted with a prosthetic during pre-production, to simulate their conjoinment, which they wore for the entire length of production.
-Coincidentally, Jessica Brooks and Wanda Robinson were born on the same day, in the same hospital, about 90 minutes apart.
-After production wrapped, Jessica Brooks and Wanda Robinson began a lesbian relationship that has lasted to this day.
-Although a scene late in the movie shows that even as adults, surgical separation would be a relatively simple and safe procedure, it is never mentioned why they had grown up joined. A scene was written, but never filmed, which explained why they grew up joined. In the scene, it was explained that the elders of the church that ran their hometown had forbidden the twins' parents from separating them, saying that it was the will of God they go through life joined to one another. The scene was removed early in filming, when Jessica Brooks and Wanda Robinson said that they didn't think it was important why they were never separated.
-Although Jessica Brooks and Wanda Robinson wore a prosthetic for the entirety of principal photography, and they have several nude scenes, the prosthetic is never fully shown onscreen.
-Katie and Kim go around bare shouldered for the entire film, their bare shoulders are meant to signify nudity.
-The scene where Katie and Kim are having sex with their boyfriends was the first scene filmed for the movie, as the scene was unsimulated, Jessica Brooks reportedly lost her virginity.
